P.T. Murphy, Galena’s own master magician sat down with us to share a few of his secrets. His popular magic show currently offers around 8 shows a week at the Magic Theater located at 204 Hill street in downtown Galena.
We were invited to the show to experience what online reviewers have called “fun”, “skillful” & “amazing”, and we were not disappointed. In his own words, P.T Murphy describes what he believes makes Galena a special place.
GG: Thank-you, P.T. for being a featured artist/entertainer for Galena Guide. To help our audience get to know you, & your work better, could you please tell us a little bit about yourself?
P.T. : “My name is P.T. Murphy. As a boy I dreamt of becoming a magician. I am happy to say that my dream came true.”
GG: What made you first interested in magic, and why?
P.T. : “I have been interested in magic for as long as I can remember. I first saw a magician perform on the Bozo Circus television show in Chicago. Many people discount magic as nothing but tricks, and magician guys in top hats trying to fool people. Magic’s roots go back before recorded history. And magicians have been a part of our culture ever since. Magic teaches us that life is full of mystery.”
GG: How long have you been doing magic as a career?
P.T. : “My first paid performance was when I was 14 years old. I haven’t looked back since.”
GG: What are two things that you think most people would be surprised to know about you?
P.T. : “Well, being a magician, I hope everything I do surprises people. :)”

P.T. : “Galena, IL. is a magical place where anything is possible.” -P.T. Murphy
