“Summer Reflections” exhibit will be open to the public August 5 through September 25, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm. The Center will host an opening reception for the exhibit on Friday, August 5, from 5 to 7 pm. Beverages and snacks will be available.

Join Galena Center for the Arts on Thursday, August 18, for the August Songwriters Showcase featuring Bruce Moon. The showcase will start at 7 pm outside on the grounds of the Center, located at 971 Gear Street in Galena. Bruce will be accompanied by bass and guitar player Mike Hawksworth.

Bruce Moon is a singer-songwriter, art therapist and painter. Since the 1960s, Bruce has been playing guitar and writing music as a solo artist and in various duos. He has recorded a number of CDs and performs regularly. Many of Bruce’s original songs are inspired by his experiences at the psychiatric hospital, where he was an art therapist for 22 years. Lady Katie and Jeff Weydert of Dubuque’s Boogie Monster Funk band have formed a duo!

A CELEBRATION OF GARLIC, FARMS, MUSIC, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY!

With nine long months from clove to bulb, Galena Garlic Company knew that garlic was a crop that was meant to be celebrated and held their first garlic festival in Galena, IL in 2004. The festivals continued for two more years and then the company decided to shift their focus to the growth of their brick and mortar stores.

Seven years and four stores later the owner of Galena Garlic, Laszlo Marton, was still looking for the perfect spot to bring his festival back to Jo Daviess County. Then in 2014 during a roadside sweet corn stop Laszlo met Michael Dittmar, the Village President of Elizabeth, IL. After a warm welcome from the community, Laszlo decided to bring back the garlic festival with a renewed focus. Bringing in additional farms with Midwest grown garlic, local produce and food vendors, and culinary and musical entertainment, we were excited to celebrate our favorite ingredient once again. With the help of Team Garlic and support from the town, the first Midwest Garlic Fest was held in 2015 at Terrapin Park in Elizabeth, IL. Growing every year since, our 8th Annual Midwest Garlic Fest will be hosted by Galena Garlic Company in 2021 with support from the Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce and the City of Elizabeth, Illinois. The Marton’s and their extended garlic family welcome you to come eat, shop, dance, and enjoy this year’s festival.

Join Galena Center for the Arts for the 2nd annual “Support the Arts Garden Party” on Sunday, August 21, from 2-4 pm. The celebration will be held at Linmar Gardens, located at 504 S Prospect Street in Galena.

Listen to live music and enjoy refreshments while exploring 3.5 acres of woodland, flowers, fountains and sculptures nestled upon a limestone hillside bluff overlooking historic Galena.

The Guthries are an American Roots Duo that create music peppered with influences such as rock, folk, country, and blues. They are multi-instrumental, playing acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, and light percussion. Expect the unexpected from these folks. They might easily swing from a latin rock beat right into a bluegrass ditty and then follow it up with some blues. There is never a dull moment with these two behind the microphones!

A new celebration called Live at the Plaza will be held at Green Street Plaza every last Thursday of the month, starting on May 26, and ending September 29!

This family-friendly, free-to-attend event will feature regional musicians, performers, food and drink. June’s Live at the Plaza event will celebrate diversity and inclusion with special Amazing For All giveaways! September’s event will celebrate Hispanic Heritage, featuring local Latino musicians and businesses.

Visit the Plaza to pick up a promotional Live at the Plaza Passport, including a list of open-late businesses with opportunities to secure promotional deals and prizes! In partnership with the Galena Downtown Business Association and the City of Galena, 33 Main Street businesses will stay open late each Thursday.

Shawn Healy and I make pretty, lyrical, heartbreaky, folky layers from over the last 100 years, with vocal harmonies over the vastness of Shawn’s spacious guitar.

Singer/songwriters and longtime friends, Colleen Wild and Jason Benefield, teamed up to play a show together. Quickly, the collaboration turned from a side project to the main project for both artists, and they gave the duo the name “Echo and Ransom.” They now play throughout the Chicagoland area, playing their own songs and a variety of covers spanning genres and eras.
