On February 20th, local historian, Cory Ritterbusch will present a lecture, “General Adam Badeau – Author, Aesthete, Grant Secretary – Lost to Time” at 2:00 p.m. at the DeSoto Hotel on 230 Main St. in Galena.
“Adam Badeau may be one of the most interesting personalities attached to the Civil War – but today he is widely unknown,” says Ritterbusch. “Badeau served as Grant’s secretary, aided in his memoirs and possibly knew Grant better than anyone. He was an author of numerous books, an art critic, consul to London and is featured in Galena’s very own, Peace in Union” painting by Thomas Nast.
A planner with the Southwest Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, Ritterbusch’s professional expertise is in environmental marketing, conservation design and outdoor recreation. His many interests include writing, photography, baseball, botany and history. Ritterbusch has published over 50 works and is a popular presenter in the tri-state area. He also portrays General John Corson Smith in the Galena Generals Group.
The program will be offered virtually if new State of Illinois COVID-19 mandates are put into effect.
